To better understand the impact of tourism on Iowa’s economy, the Iowa Tourism Office partnered with Tourism Economics to develop a detailed report measuring the far-reaching effects of visitor spending. The study highlights how travel and tourism contribute not just through direct visitor spending, but also through the broader ripple effects on jobs, businesses, and tax revenues across the state.

In 2024, visitors spent over $7.5 billion in Iowa, driving a total economic impact of $11.2 billion statewide. Tourism also supported more than 71,900 jobs and generated $1.2 billion in state and local tax revenue — reinforcing the vital role travel and hospitality play in Iowa’s economic growth and community vitality.

County-level numbers will be available in Excel format; an interactive dashboard is linked below.
